I hate laburnum

I hate laburnum! Detest it! Look at that nasty cold yellow, just like a field of rape! And the new bit (only Norman) on St. Peter's church ( http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/st-peters-church-barton-upon-humber/ ) striving to be seen above it. And before long, those of you who like the bright colour of that tangle of weeds will see that it has been just a brief and garish prelude to a drab dark green mess. I have a feeling that the laburnum tree was promoted in garden centres around 30 or 40 years ago, and I usually don't like ANY plant that has been heavily promoted in garden centres. Fortunately this THING (actually it is several THINGS) is not in my garden, but in the 'Old Vicarage' garden opposite; we DID have one, a monstrosity with 5 trunks in the front garden and had to get planning permission to remove it. It was good to see it gone, and has been replaced by a medlar, a much more noble tree. I know, I know - some people like laburnum. If you do, tell me if you still like it next month.

  1. I love Laburnum, its a strong beautiful yellow. Wish we had a garden BIG enough to have one really. Looking up yellow in the books/internet it is masculine and beautiful. The shade of yellow determines the meaning. Pure, bright and sunny yellow is the easiest colour to see. People who are blind to other colours can usually see yellow. Yellow is full of creative and intellectual energy. Always use yellow note pads.

Yellow symbolizes wisdom. Yellow means joy and happiness. People of high intellect favour yellow. Yellow daffodils are a symbol of unrequited love. Sunday's colour is yellow-gold.

BUT laburnum is magical too ... so you see Viv YOU are wrong ... Oh all right then, I just love it so hands off it!! K. xx
